Mental Health Assessment
A mental health assessment focuses on understanding an individual’s emotional health, while also providing insights into more challenging behaviours. This type of assessment can identify mental health issues such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma-related disorders, disruptive behaviour disorders, and other issues with emotional dysregulation.
Most importantly, a mental health assessment guides the creation of an effective treatment plan, offering holistic strategies for individuals and their families to better address these challenges and improve overall well-being.
What Does a Typical Mental Health Assessment Involve?
1) A review of relevant background documents, such as previous psychiatric reports or treatment summaries.
2) The administration of standardized questionnaires with the child/youth, their parents, and possibly other relevant respondents.
3) In-depth interviews with the child/youth and/or their parents to gather diagnostic information and understand mental health concerns.
4) After the assessment, we provide verbal feedback on the findings and recommendations during a meeting with the child/youth and/or their parents. A concise written report, focused on mental health, is also provided to guide next steps.
